butterfly on hoarding by c'est bon

graffiti is vulnerable. too vulnerable in my opinion. not only is a fresh piece prone to overspraying by anyone with a spraycan, but the ravages of time take their toll, along with a distinct possibility of its removal. a heavy-handed example is the recent knocking down of the wall painted by banksy on sevier street, i mean, people were grabbing bricks an ting. actually, the more i think about it, the more i appreciate its demise…

perhaps more of a mystery is the disappearance of the banksy sprayed onto a screen down st mark’s road. true, it was offensive, but that hadn’t stopped it from being on display every evening for years without any cover up. suddenly it was gone. and it wasn’t like the shop had replaced ALL of the shutters, just the banksy one. what happened to it? was it deemed offensive by the shop owners? did someone offer a large wad of cash for it? was it ram-raided?

watch this space… i need to know…
