this december has seen an incredible amount of graffiti shows, offering up the widest selection of art you could imagine…
we had ghostboy, cyclops, instinct and motorboy at the centrespace gallery in november and there was supposed to be a further exhibition featuring work by ghostboy, tapper, patch, robert manners, ben risk and tony romanoff, but there seemed to be a misprint on the flyer and we turned up too late! workshop has their successful richt exhibition on perry road, sickboy has his aaghaus show aboard the apple on welshback, there was the recent 39 steps studio show featuring mr jago, rowdy, dora, dan, j kruk and t hine, plus an exhibition in ghostboy’s studio about the artspacelifespace venture and a retrospective of work by nick walker at the park bar and lounge… all in all a massive exposure of graffiti… the another crew have one at the lounge in bath… it sure is making going to exhibitions more exciting…
can an artist taking the rather obvious step from graffiti to art retain all creditibility..? well of course, so long as the work retains credibility, and that is somewhat subjective, as all art criticism is… love it or hate it, there’s a lot of talent out there and whether you’re collecting to invest or just coz you like the piece, it’s ultimate worth has to be with the owner of any piece…
besides which, at least it doesn’t get buffed or lost under layers of subsequent pieces…
so get out there and support your local graf artist…
