it’s him again… or is it?

of course there are many talented writers out there producing fantastic work. you only have to go down bedminster skatepark to see that. currently there’s a fab piece by sickboy and ponk that just blows me away every time i gaze at it. in fact i’ll share it with you here and now coz you simply have to see it…

fab graffiti piece by sickboy and ponk, bedminster, bristol

…see what i mean?!

anyway, back to the point… the stencil below has recently appeared in an unlikely place in bristol, up near clifton triangle, ostencibly by banksy. it’s his cut-out stencil complete with banksy signature [though someone has defaced that already - see april blog], but its placement and the fact that it’s an old stencil AND the lack of well-placed humour seems to indicate that it is in fact A FAKE!!!

is this a banksy or a FAKE?

what do you make of it? the implications are very interesting, copying someone else’s style and daubing it everywhere. the same could be done for mr dot.com, who thinks nothing of plastering his tag on walls, vans, anything that doesn’t move. surely we’d be doing him a favour if we took it upon ourselves to do the same? after all, his intent seems to be total coverage of our city. now i wouldn’t advocate vandalism, i’d prefer something a little more considered, but if that’s what he wants…

…back to the point. quite what the point is, i’m no longer sure, but fake banksys is a fab idea. i could photocopy our print and rip off everybody on ebay and buy some decent art with it. one by sickboy, for example…
